This week marked my fourth book club meeting, and I'm happy to say we're still going strong. Although it's a pretty small group, its all about quality over quantity. When I originally tried to start a book club earlier this year I got a ton of responses but when push came to shove none of them ended up showing, I'm sure they all had good intentions but sometimes life just gets in the way. In the end though we ended up getting a small group made up of myself, and two other woman (Joanna and Nicole) and we've faithfully met the last Wednesday of the month for the past four months and it's been wonderful. We've read books that have been different and new to all of us over the months. So far we've read:
January: Sing You Home - Jodi Picoult
February: When We Were Strangers - Pamela Schoenewaldt
March: The Hunger Games - Suzanne Collins
April: The Tiger's Wife - Tea Obreht
May: The Discovery of Witches - Deborah Harkness
We've also gone to some great restaurants, and tried to keep them with the theme of the book when possible too. We went to a local Italian place in honor of When we were strangers, since it is about an Italian immigrant. For The Hunger Games, we went to dinner and a movie which was fantastic knowing I had people that were just as excited about the movie as I was and I knew I'd never get Mike to go with me. Next month we are meeting at a wine bar restaurant in honor of the author being a self proclaimed wine lover. It's so much fun meeting every month, having great conversation about books, and enjoying a nice dinner with good company. I can't wait to see what other books the future holds. I know we'll be doing another dinner and a movie this summer when Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter comes out in theaters, and although it's totally not something I would have read on my own I'm sure it'll be fun to read and discuss as a group, after all it's also about experiencing the things.
