I wanted to write a page About Me and where I am in my life and why I write this blog. I started this blog in the summer of 2009 on a whim with pretty much not ever hearing of or visiting any blogs before. With being recently engaged at the time I wanted a place to write down all my thoughts and ideas and to keep track of all the fun wedding plans, after all you only get to plan a wedding once. I wanted to remember every minute of the experience so I could look back on it all and see how it all came together. I also wanted a place to share some of my thoughts and ideas with our friends and family who were interested in hearing what we were up to and I have always enjoyed writing.
In the back of my mind I also had the idea in my head that after the wedding I would print it out and hopefully one day share the story of our wedding and lives and how Mike & I fell in love and that I would love share it with our kids and even grandchildren one day. I think back to my parents and grandparents and always heard the stories of where they came from growing up but never got to read anything about them and really understand their relationships and how it all started for them. I would love to hear the stories my grandmother told me growing up on a farm in Ireland, or how my grandfather came over on boat from Italy when he was a small child and came through Ellis Island when he immigrated here. Or even how my Poppy served in World War II and met my grandmother in a bakery in Queens one day (or I think that was the story).
I would love to have some of my Oma's recipes, she was a fantastic baker from what I remember as a small child. I want to be able to pass all of mine and Mike's stories on to my children and have a way to remember all of the wonderful things we have done together. My Mother-in-Law recently found some of her Mother's recipes and was so excited about finding them. I want to be able to pass those same recipes onto my kids, imagine sharing recipes with them from their great-grandmother?
Now that our wedding has come and gone I still continue to write my blog and write about our lives together as Newlyweds and where life takes us, especially before we have kids. I hope one day to write a blog about our children, to especially share with our family who can't be here with us every day. I do look forward to those days, I know Mike and I will make amazing parents together, and can't wait to be a mommy one day, although that day will not be anytime soon. For now I want to enjoy married life for a little while longer with no kids.
Our journey together began over 5 years ago now back in Westchester, NY in the summer of 2005 on the softball field, it has taken us to another state where we bought our first home together. In early 2008 we bought a beautiful townhouse in North Jersey, I do dream about a bigger kitchen one day but we'll be here a couple more years (while it's just us and we wait out for the real estate market to rebound - hopefully!)
In May of 2009 Mike made me so happy when he asked me to marry him, of course I said yes. We jetted off to London & Paris, and called it our engagement celebration trip. I didn't stop smiling the entire flight to London. When we got back to began planning our dream fall wedding, we had 18 months to do all the planning before the big day. It seemed to fly by, as I write this tomorrow will already be three months ago that we celebrated our marriage.
And as of October 2010 we started our journey together as Newlyweds. Now I document all the exciting times we have together as we enjoy married life and I work on my cooking and photography skills and hopefully travel the world among other things!
