Not Too Many Veggies

Wow I am really behind on posting these pictures considering I took them on August 20th and it's now September 17th and I'm only getting around to updating my blog now (and I started this post a week ago). Sadly my garden has not quite progressed the way I was hoping. And unfortunately in the past week I have really started neglecting the poor garden and it's gotten a bit dry. I think I started giving up on it since the summer is now over and it didn't exactly produce the results I was expecting.

Even though I didn't end up getting any vegetables I wouldn't consider it a total loss. One, I managed to keep the plants alive all summer, in what was one of the hottest summers on records, that alone speaks volumes. Two, I think I learned a lot from doing this. I def plan to do it again next summer since now I have all my containers and tools and it will be much less of an investment to do it again. I think my biggest problem was that I planted too many seeds in the tiny pots and it was overcrowded so while the plants grew, they couldn't reach their ultimate potential. I think I thinned them out too late.

Mike promised me that one day I will have my own real garden and it won't have to be in pots on the deck and I will have a beautiful vegetable garden in our backyard. And Rocky won't be confined to the deck and can have a whole big backyard to run around in. Until then I'll keep getting my practice in my little containers. I look forward to giving it another shot next year and hopefully getting some vegetables next time!
My only 'real' vegetable to grow - Little mini cucumbers!

Garden without Veggies

I have a vegetable garden but no vegetables :-( Everything still seems to be fully alive but I'm a little disappointed by the lack of progress, I figured by now I'd have some stuff that would be sprouting. The tomatoes are not even close to having any tiny little buds on them, except for the cucumbers.
The basil is coming in strong!
I have no idea what those two long stalks are, I thought they were weeds at first
See the tiny cucumber sprouting! It's progress!
The zucchini seems to look ok here but sometimes it doesn't look so hot
I thought everything would be taller by now and maybe have some tomatoes on there
It is a beautiful garden, it's fun to have some greenery on the deck and something to look at and take care of everyday. It would be great if it actually grew some vegetables though. Is it supposed to take this long???

I Have A Radish!

My vegetable garden officially has an actual vegetable. One lonely little radish to start the bunch off. I didn't realize it's been almost a month since my last garden update and the garden has really grown in a lot since then and continues to make progress. Everything seems to be growing in pretty well. Although with the heat we have been having I have to go out there every day and practically drown the garden to keep the soil moist enough, by the next day it is dry again, but they are in a really sunny spot and there has not been any rain at all. When I was posting these pictures it was exciting to look back and see just the dirt pots I started off with. It's been a lot of fun to watch them keep growing. I can't wait for them to grow some actual vegetables, hopefully it won't be long now before I start to see some small buds. We shall see!

There she is, my proud little radish!
My two types of tomatoes progressing nicely, not too much height yet but getting there
My herbs, the basil is looking good, scallions coming along
The cucumbers now have flowers and have started climbing up the deck!
My other hodge podge basket and the peppers
The zucchini are really growing and even had flowers on them, although I am slightly worried about them due to the bottom of them have some dead leaves hanging off but they still seem to be progressing
Rocky always comes outside with me to help me water!

Growing Garden

Lots of good garden progress! Another week come and gone and look how great they are growing in, so exciting, I love watching them grow. All seems to be going well so far!
Um, these are a hodge podge, I threw a couple of whatever seeds were left in these
We'll see how that strategy works out for me
Two different types of tomatoes
Believe its peppers on the left and squash/zucchini on the right
Tons of basil and scallions in these two!
Cucumbers (started at different times but both growing well)
Rocky supervising and checking things out!
