Romantic Valentine's Day

Even though Valentine's Day was almost 3 weeks ago now I have to go back and write about Valentine's Day this year. I have to give Mike credit, he really did good this year. I know I used to be somewhat of a hopeless romantic, and unfortunately Mike is not the hopeless-romantic, sappy type. In fact the only time he's ever given be flowers is when he proposed, but at least he got that right when it counted. This year since I didn't want to have any type of lofty hopeless romantic expectations, and also because Mike did not plan anything in advance I ended up compromising with him and said I will go to the gym and you will be in charge of making a romantic dinner at home. This was also much more cost effective than going out to dinner since we just went out to a very extravagant dinner in the city on the Friday night before.

I went to my step class at the gym and when I arrived back home I was pleasantly surprised. Mike had a beautiful dinner waiting for me. The best part had to be that he had set the table and the mood beautifully. Although this was partly because he waited until 6pm on Valentine's Day night to go to the supermarket to go buy flowers and they were sold out, so he found a package of rose petals they had there. Which did work out in the end (I still didn't get my flowers but maybe one day he'll get there, heck it doesn't even have to be on Valentine's Day, I'd take it on one of the other 364 days of the year, but I digress). Getting back to dinner, he had the rose petals and candles lit on the table, which looked beautiful. For dinner he prepared on his own a caesar salad, garlic bread and homemade penne alla vodka, which the recipe was from my favorite website (skinnytaste, so it was even healthy). The pasta was delicious and even better since he made it special just for me and went through all the trouble of setting everything up.

I wish I had a picture of the beautiful table setting and meal, I'll just have to remember it in my mind, it really was sweet. This was a dramatic improvement from some Valentine's Day past, I think he is finally getting what I am looking for, of course I had to put it out there but some not so subtle hints always help and then everyone was happy!
