Hunger Games

Let's talk about The Hunger Games for a second. It is only the absolute hottest movie out there right now. It is based on the novel trilogy by Suzanne Collins. I read the books last summer before I knew they were being turned into movies, I should have known it was inevitable that they'd become movies.  I was hesitant for a long time to read the novels, it is just such a strange premise. The story is based on a post apocalyptic future world where each 'district' is forced to send two children between the age of 12-18 to fight to the gruesome death and the entire nation is forced to watch these events in an effort for the government to control them and show who is in control. Sounds bizarre, and it is but yet I was sucked in from page one of the book. You keep reading to see what is happening to the main character Katniss.

I'm happy to say that our book club is still going strong for three months now and for this month we decided to read The Hunger Games and go see the movie together. Which is perfect since I knew I wouldn't be able to get Mike to go to the movies with me to see it . Now usually I hate when they turn really good books into movies, they end up butchering the story, I've seen some really good books turned into horrible movies, or disappointments, however such is not the case of The Hunger Games! I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the movie adaptation. They stayed so true to the book and the small changes they did make only made the movie even better, and gave a chance to see the other characters perspective of the events. There were a couple of minor details left out but nothing that would have made a difference to the movie. It was exciting to see the movie come together on the screen, after all how would they show such a gruesome story line of kids killing other kids, but the film is more than that, I love the underlying themes of the novel and how they explore them more in the next two books, which I already can't wait to see the next part of the series turned into a movie!
