We were so happy when one of the first places we passed was a winery, mind you there are only about 3 wineries located on the south shore. When we pulled up to Wolfer Estate we were told there was a wedding going on there that day so we'd have to go over to the "wine stand." First I couldn't imagine a more beautiful place to get married, I wish I could go to a wedding at a winery, second we were definitely skeptical of how the "wine stand" would compete with this beautiful estate but boy it didn't disappoint.
The set up at the wine stand allowed you to go and sit at a table out back overlooking the beautiful vineyards and take in the view while enjoying some wine. I choose to do one of their wine tasting flights while Mom ordered a glass of wine. The wine that Mom ordered, their 2009 Chardonay is my new favorite white wine. It was seriously one of the best white wines I've ever had, we bought three bottles of that wine alone, and Mom has since found out they carry it at her local wine store.
To compliment our wine we also ordered a cheese plate, well let me tell you this cheese plate was incredible, I don't think I've ever had such good cheese before. The second closest I came was the cheese plate I ordered at the French restaurant I went to in the city. The cheese plate had manchego, Drunken Goat, Fromager D'Affinois, which was like a brie cheese, omg it was incredible, even better than Brie and the manchego was so good too. I had to take a picture of the description on the menu so I wouldn't forget what type of cheese it was. After our delicious wine stop we were off to explore more of the Island, apparently we missed our destination and literally went to the end where we go to the Montauk Light House. So as we're walking towards the lighthouse my genius mother noticed she was wearing two different shoes, well we got quite the kick out of that, I practically peed my pants. She then had to walk around like that! I wonder if anyone noticed.
Ok so the woman sold us that it was worth it to go up to the lighthouse and explore the grounds, it was an astronomical fee, to which we paid, I feel like it was something ridiculous like $20 per person, but I could be lying, it sure felt like that. It was pretty to see but I def would not pay the fee to go up there again. But we saw it once, picture evidence below.
After that it was on to actually see the beach since we didn't have a mansion we were going home to out there. It was a beautiful day to go see the beach, although we didn't stay but it would be great to go back there and relax a bit!
I'm trying not to blow over in the wind!
When we were kids we used to go to Gurney's all the time, I think that is where my brother took his first steps. My parents even almost bought a time share there, but we have not been back in years. Mom and I wanted to go there for a nice lunch. Gurney's was def secluded but it was nice, we had a delicious lunch and even got to have some of the same wine we had earlier that day!
And as if that wasn't enough wine for the day we decided to make one final stop at Duck Walk vineyards on the way home since we were passing by anyway and it just happened to be open. Not going to lie though it was kind of disappointing, nothing like the experiences we'd had at other vineyards, it took a while to get service and the wine was just ok, nothing to rave about. While I'm not one to hate on wine or try it, I don't think it would be high on my list of vineyards to return to. None the less though it was still fun to try!
All in all another very successful trip out east to keep exploring Long Island, but next time I want to stick with the North Shore and go to more wineries!
