The bus took us around and we saw fun sites such as Ford's Theater, of the J. Edgar Hoover building where the FBI is headquartered.
The tour took us all the way out to the outskirts of downtown DC to see the National Cathedral. I was so impressed. It is huge! I think they said it is the 6th largest Cathedral in the world, which I can see why. I was not prepared for how large in scale it was. There is some scaffolding on the Cathedral right now as they work to repair damages that were sustained in last years fluke earthquake that hit the DC area. The tour bus also took us through the Georgetown area which was beautiful, both the downtown and suburbs area, I would love to live there, it looked like such a beautiful place. I could have spent a whole day or more just exploring and walking around those neighborhoods.
After we had finished with our bus tour we went walking through DC, walking past the White House of course.
Washington Monument
Yup, here I am getting burnt out in the sun. My skin will manage to match that shirt by the end of the day. Also note the sleeves and neckline, yea I have to look at that every day, my lovely farmer's tan
World War II Memorial
Lincoln Memorial
By this point in the day itwas excruciatingly hot, and as much as I am a walker even I had to resign to the heat that it prevented us from seeing more of DC. That and a motorcycle rally that had over 100,000 riders participating which closed down half of the city, which is also the reason that the tour bus was only operating one route. So we could not get over to a lot of the other monuments like the Thomas Jefferson Memorial. We also did not get to see things such as Arlington Cemetery since that bus route was closed as well. We just couldn't deal with the heat of walking around and in and out of places. We eventually wound up riding the same bus route again but this time inside on the bottom of the bus since we were so desperate to get in from the sun since I was scorched. Before we headed back to the hotel, we did make our final museum stop of the day at The International Spy Museum. It was actually pretty cool. They had thousands of spy items on display, things you would never think of it, it's funny to imagine they were really used for spying!
For dinner we walked over to this place called, Matchbox: Chinatown. It was a really nice place, and the food and drinks were delicious! I had the most amazing pomegranate martini, I want to figure out how to make one, the menu said it was made of "pama pomegranate liquor / absolut mandrin /
sour mix / splash of sprite." Dinner was also equally as good, I had one of the pizza's and it was delicious, I have to say we once again ate very well on our trip!
